Meet Priya, Motivated to do good & protect people

“It has been great that LAB³ has supported me to pursue my wider interests and appear as a speaker at cyber security conferences.” 

Priya is a security engineer with the LAB³ Security Operations Centre (SOC) and in her free time, she enjoys giving back to the cyber security community through speaking at conferences and mentoring. She is motivated to help others through her knowledge and skills in cyber security. 

Priya first became passionate about cyber security when she was at university studying Computer Engineering. As a student, articles she came across in Hacker News enthralled her. As well as finding the technical aspects fascinating, cyber security stood out as a focus area and she made this her area of research. 

“While at university, I was involved in fundraising for kids in need. I found this work deeply fulfilling and it made me realise I wanted a career with the purpose of bettering our world. As I became immersed in cyber security, I felt the same sense of gratification. It was a chance to do good and protect people using my professional skills and knowledge.” 

Day to day, in the LAB³ SOC, the work Priya is mostly involved with is to ensure client security postures are up to date and vulnerabilities are covered, protecting client systems from any irregularities and breaches. Measures are always evolving and being fine-tuned, and there is comprehensive reporting. It is challenging work. 

 “The people you work with either make you or break you, and from day one at LAB³, I have been lucky to work alongside great people and on progressive things. This has given me the chance to push myself, learn and adapt, and put myself in an even better position to give. I am thankful to be surrounded by such an empowering and nurturing team,” says Priya.
