Meet Roger, Principal Engineer (Cloud & DevOps)
Energised to meet new challenges every day
“I thrive on innovation which is what I love about LAB3. Although sometimes the deadlines and complexity can be stressful, this comes part and parcel with the challenge of doing new things. It also means no two days are the same which keeps me interested and engaged.”
Roger is based in Auckland and during the two years he has been with LAB3 Roger considers himself lucky to have learnt from the LAB3 crew across Australia and New Zealand.
“I have worked alongside people who I consider to be the best and brightest in the industry. They readily answer questions and are inclusive, so I have learnt a lot from them,” said Roger.
Currently Roger is working on a major project for one of New Zealand’s largest government departments and this involves building a new Azure landing zone with automation and AI.
“We are using the LAB3 Bedrock product as the solution framework and given the complexities unique to the client, there are many customisations involved in the deployment,” said Roger.
Roger finds it rewarding that the delivery team he is on will be helping refine the Bedrock product and said, “At LAB3 there is strong collaboration between client facing teams and product development teams”.
“The complexity of the project means there will be a lot of learnings to pass onto the Bedrock team and I appreciate how they readily welcome input. It feels like being one big team working and innovating together.”
Recently Roger was promoted to become a Principal Engineer in Cloud & DevOps in recognition of the knowledge he has acquired in coding and delivery.
“Along with the innovation at LAB3, I also enjoy gaining experience with any new tools I come across in client environments,” said Roger. “It is satisfying to have opportunities which broaden my skill set delivering across diverse and highly regulated organisations.”
Roger enjoys the benefits of being able to work remotely and the time which this creates for his young family.
“I start each day with a 30-minute workout. The after-burn keeps me energised for the day ahead and ready to tackle the challenges that will inevitably arise.”
